2. Vista KicksBooty Shakers Ball

Featured Tracks: Gotta Get Away, Gimmie Love, Fight the War & Me & Mr Reilly

For Fans Of: The Alabama Shakes, Kings of Leon, Artic Monkeys, Jake Bugg, Blitzen Trapper, The Strokes, The Bee Gees, Weezer

Four lifelong friends from Northern California grow up obsessed with the sounds of AC/DC, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, The Bee Gees and Michael Jackson. Living within a block of each other since kindergarten, they began playing anywhere and everywhere with a stage by the age of 16, taking over supper clubs, parties, and backyard barbecues. Within a year, the band’s independent 2016 Chasing Waves EP and additional singles generated over 5 million cumulative Spotify streams and 3.2 million YouTube views. However, everything set the stage for the release of their 2017 full-length, Booty Shakers Ball, self-produced by the musicians themselves and engineered by their guitar player and vocalist Sam Plecker. Best described as a smoked-out collaboration between James Brown and Jimmy Page, it bridges eras. This is Booty Shaking Rock and Roll, says Trevor. We’re so far behind that we’re ahead; I don’t think there’s anything else like us out there. Every song is different and eclectic. We’re old soul millennials, exclaims Trevor. We’re young and wound up like everybody else our age, but our roots go deep. We’ve found an audience that’s just like us. It’s rock music that you can shake your booty to and party. That’s exactly what the first single and album opener “Gotta Get Away” offers. Hinging on bluesy and ballsy riffing as well as a simmering, soulful groove, the track opens up the world of Vista Kicks, treading a fine line between rock and funk.

3. The SherlocksLive For The Moment

live-for-the-moment-sherlocks

Featured Tracks: Will You Be There?, Life for the Moment, Chasing Shadows & Blue

For Fans Of: Artic Monkeys, The Clash, The Vaccines, Kaiser

Since their sold-out UK Tour in September 2016, the Sheffield four-piece has been relentlessly touring the UK, with numerous festival dates. The band, consisting of two sets of brothers, have been steadily building a solid live following and were the first unsigned band since Arctic Monkeys to sell out their local venue, the Sheffield Leadmill. With support from the likes of Steve Lamacq, Annie Mac, Mistajam & Huw Stephens, this is a young band following in the great tradition of guitar groups from their area. When asked what to expect from this anticipated debut. The Sherlocks promise: “The time has finally come…what started as a hobby has incredibly turned into a career. But this is all down to our fans forinvesting their time into our band. The amount of people calling for this album is truly overwhelming and we know this is the right time to share it. We’ve genuinely worked so hard for this and put everything into this album, down to the very last detail. Everything about this album feels incredibly special…4 lads from the middle of nowhere. This is what makes our story so special, that the people have decided to back a real band and we will be forever grateful to them for that. Our lives have completely changed over thelast few years… we started this band around 7 years ago as friends jamming a few songs out together in my dad’s garage. Over 1200 gigs later, we’re now here announcing something we will be eternally proud of. We can’t wait for you to hear it in its entirety. This one’s for you.”

5. Casper SkullsMercy Works

CasperSkulls-MercyWorksLPcover

Featured Tracks: Mercy Works, You Can Call Me Allocator, Lingua Franca, Primeval & Colour Of The Outside

For Fans Of: Beliefs, Dilly Dally, Slothrust, Slowdive

Toronto post-punks Casper Skulls release their first full length LP with Buzz Records (Weaves, Greys).  While the rough and ready post-punk and lo-fi early ’90s indie influences present on the band’s first recordings still provide the foundation, there is a sense of scale on display in their swelling guitar figures and sweeping string arrangements that is mirrored by the songwriting of dual lead vocalists Melanie St. Pierre and Neil Bednis. The real-life couple seek to represent lived experience in immense detail – engaging with a diverse palette of references, both musical and lyrical, to explore two intensely personal perspectives of emotional growth. Thematically, the album traverses various paths of self-exploration, from relationships to politics to death and grief, in a language inflected by an immersion in several generations of experimental guitar music, and an ambivalent grappling with the reverberations of a Catholic upbringing.

6. ShamirRevelations

1505327106

Featured Tracks: You Have a Song, 90’s Kids & Straight Boy

For Fans Of: Blood Orange, Perfume Genius

Shamir is Shamir and remains Shamir through and through, no matter what the universe puts him through. After quickly rising to underground fame with his Northtown EP in 2014, the DIY popstar made a sonic splash with Rachet’s lead single “On The Regular,” a poppy banger and commercial success. And what do you do if XL drops you? If you’re Shamir, you put out an album you recorded yourself all in one weekend, whilst questioning the decision to quit music. The record was called Hope and Shamir self-released it via SoundCloud during the spring of 2017, with no promotion or label support. Now, happily joining San Francisco based indie label Father/Daughter Records, Shamir is excited to share his upcoming new album, titled Revelations. Revelations is much more minimal in instrumentation & production compared to Rachet, but is even more full in sound and feeling. They’re Shamir’s Revelations, and you should listen up.

7. La Louma Let The World Be Flooded Out

LaLouma-LetTheWorldBeFloodedOut-Artwork

Featured Tracks: The Decline Of Nations, Hear Me Out & Aaj Mausam Bada Beimann Hai

Meticulously handcrafted over hundreds of hours of solitude, La Louma’s palette includes thickly melodic woodwinds and brass, electric guitar and bass, impatient drums, tremolo vocal undercurrents, and metaphor-laden lyrics. On Let The World Be Flooded Out, the tone repeatedly shifts unexpectedly from dramatic desperation to quiet contemplation, from a determined sprint to utter immobilization. Musically mirroring La Louma’s vagabond mind, each of the album’s richly transportive scenes are colored by carefully chosen modalities, timbres, instrumentations, and arrangements. On her debut, she explores heavy subject matter in an upbeat atmosphere, merging her classical training with her DIY queer punk ethos.

3. Slaughter Beach, DogBirdie

Featured Tracks: Bad Beer & Sleepwalking

For Fans Of: Kevin Devine, Manchester Orchestra, Modern Baseball, Pinegrove

Few bands can say they were born out of necessity, but Slaughter Beach, Dog can. In 2015, Jake Ewald, in the midst of trying to write songs for his other band Modern Baseball (which has since gone on hiatus), hit a patch of writer’s block. To get himself back in action, Ewald decided to move the focus off of himself, stitching together a loose narrative surrounding a motley cast of characters. Before he knew it, he’d written an entire album, and Slaughter Beach, Dog was no longer an exercise, it was a full-fledged band. Birdie expands upon the framework Ewald built on Welcome and the recent EP Motorcycle .jpg, retaining the hallmarks of Slaughter Beach, Dog while pushing into brave new territories.  Birdie is bountiful in its scope, with songs that pile on layers of instruments and suck you into the world of Slaughter Beach, Dog. And once you’re there, you never want to leave.

4. Flat Worms – Flat Worms

Flat Worms

Featured Tracks: Motorbike & Pearl
For Fans Of: Oh Sees, Kevin Morby, Ty Segall, Sic Alps, Heron Oblivions, The Babies, Swell Maps, ORB
Flat Worms really belt-sanded us with their 7″ on Volar, and we are proud as new papas to present their debut LP. They continue their ride on a buzzsaw wave of feedback-tipped riffs into the middle distance, smog-choked sunset receding in the rearview, a thousand yard dead-pan surgically pinned to a high octane set of boredom energized punk pistons. Flat Worms – ears a-ringing missive from the end of the cul-de-sac, the mirage of direction wavering above a mid-sized American suburb at dusk, constellations bleached black by the sprawl. A little Wipers, a little Wire, and a lot of late-capitalist eras anxious energy – Flat Worms scratch the itch quite nicely, we think.
5. Lindsay Latimer – Teenage Lullaby [EP]
Teenage Lullaby - Lindsay Latimer
Featured Tracks: Until Then & I Blame You
Lindsay Latimer, a Nashville-based singer/songwriter, released her second EP, Teenage Lullaby on October 20th. Teenage Lullaby, produced by Jeremy Lutito (Ingrid Michaelson, Mat Kearney, Ben Rector), is a 5-track EP that rotates between dreamy and nostalgic to palpable and raw and features a wide range of instruments from the piano, electric bass, violin, viola, to cello. With her buttery vocals and captivating hooks, Lindsay tells stories of nostalgia, growing up, and relationships, while she gracefully skims the surfaces of pop, electronic, jazz, and rock – landing in a fresh sound of her own.

8. The ClydesSo The Story Goes

22552822_10154773198826507_4224769154706459303_n
Featured Tracks: Broken Boy, Holly Speaks, Que & The Vampire Of Hanover
For Fans Of: Sloan, Teenage Fanclub, Okkervil River, Fairmont
The Clydes are an alt-pop-rock band from New Jersey set to release So The Story Goes, their first full-length album on Mint 400 Records. The quartet – led by brothers Brent Johnson (lead vocals) and Brian Johnson (lead guitar) – signed with the label last year after releasing three records on their own and building a name for themselves by playing venues throughout the Northeast, from The Stone Pony in Asbury Park to The Bitter End in New York City. The band – fleshed out by Andrew Lord Chandler (bass) and MadMardigan (drums) released Comeback Charlie, an EP, on the label last fall. So The Story Goes, a 10-song album, is a more ambitious affair. They’ve added more dynamics, bits of trumpet, a wider arrange of guitar tones, and lyrics that explore the challenge and hope of both standing up for yourself and trying to better yourself. There’s also a song about an early 20th century serial killer. Like Comeback Charlie, the album was produced by Neil Sabatino, Mint 400’s founder and the leader of New Jersey indie rock veterans Fairmont.” – New Noise
9. San FerminAsleep on the train [Single]
Asleep On The Train - San Fermin
Featured Track: Asleep On The Train
Produced by bandleader Ellis Ludwig-Leone and brought to life by his fellow performers—lead vocalists Charlene Kaye (KAYE) and Allen Tate, trumpet player John Brandon, saxophonist Stephen Chen, violinist Rebekah Durham, drummer Michael Hanf, and guitarists Tyler McDiarmid and Aki Ishiguro—San Fermin‘s 2017 album Belong is a warm, intoxicating LP. Now, the band has released a lush, gorgeous outtake from the Belong sessions, entitled “Asleep on the Train.” According to Ludwig-Leone, “this song is a b-side that I’ve always liked, but it didn’t quite fit on the record,” says bandleader Ludwig-Leone. “The intro starts with kind of train whistle sound, and then the sax and violin come in with this chugging sound that inspired the lyrics to the song. The lyrics are inspired by late nights on the subway, all flickering fluorescent lights and post-party depression.” Featuring dual vocals from both Tate and Kaye, “Asleep On The Train” is a worthy addition to the San Fermin catalogue and should sound great live during the band’s shows this October.

10. IsadorFalling [Single]

Falling - Isador

Featured Track: Falling

Warren Heller, who goes by the name Isador, is a stunningly creative photographer, graphic designer, filmmaker, and musician who has made it his mission to tell stories of coming of age in a hostile world, overcoming limitations both externally imposed and involuntarily self-inflicted. Heller’s first single, “Falling,” has just arrived via 300 Entertainment. With introspective lyrics layered with thumping bass and sweeping orchestral arrangements, the song and its accompanying video lay bare some internal struggles. “I dropped out of college and became isolated at home,” he says. “It felt like my life was falling apart around me. Music had always been an outlet for me in the past, so I tried to channel all this dread and fear I was feeling into ‘Falling.’ It helped me process what I was feeling and start to pick up the pieces.”
